Synex has been in business since 1981. We are dedicated to the principle that service is tantamount in our business.

We have developed numerous formulas for multiple aluminum alloys as well as zinc, brass, bronze, ductile iron, and stainless steel. We believe that your solutions should be supported fully. That support comes in the form of several warehouses located all across America and ten regional distributors as front line support and product shipment points.

Years ago, the chemical specialists at Synex decided that they could create a flux for the metal industry that would remove any uncertainty associated with the customer's purchase. They created a core of specialty fluxes that has brought excellent results. This product line has continued to develop. Constant researching and testing has strengthened Synex's time proven products. Keeping our products competitive while maintaining high quality, has developed long term customer loyalty.

Synex's special blends of the finest chemicals available produces the cleanest and best flux in the world. We design our products to give maximum performance with different alloys and various temperature ranges.

Progressive Product Line

Synex continually researches the latest chemical technology to improve our products. Synex continues to introduce new products to meet changing conditions.

Quality Flux Equals Quality Metal

Pure, consistent, high quality Synex products can clean hydrogen oxides and other inclusions from molten metal. This improves the quality of our customer's castings.

How Synex Fluxes Work

Synex designs exothermic fluxes to remove dross from the molten bath of metal. In aluminum, the dross consists of aluminum metal, aluminum oxide, and oxides from alloying agents such as magnesium and zinc. Pieces of the refractory lining and other miscellaneous nonferrous materials can also be present. The size of these particles ranges from chunks that are very large, to small pieces that are less than 1 millimeter in diameter.

Trapping Inclusions

Small pockets or voids in the dross particles normally cause them to float to the top of the molten bath. Dross particles that are less than 1 millimeter in size do not have the buoyancy to float through the metal, and thus remain in the bath. It then becomes necessary to apply a flux that has the chemical affinity to attach to these particles and float them to the surface. Good exothermic cleaning fluxes float the oxides to the surface and then put them through an exothermic chemical reaction to separate the trapped metal droplets in the oxide.

The Exothermic Process

Rabbling an exothermic flux into the upper surface of the molten metal, causes flux to stick to the oxide particles due to its chemical affinity for hydrogen and oxides. These oxides cling together and float to the surface of the metal bath. Next, the exothermic nature of the flux causes the heated dross to become very hot, thus releasing the aluminum droplets back into the bath. The dross should primarily consist of the unwanted oxides and chemical residues. Synex's unique blend of quality chemicals will normally leave less than 30% metal in the dross. Many inferior fluxes are entirely too hot and will termite (burn up the aluminum droplets). This will give the appearance of good fluxing, but will destroy a large amount of metal. The presence of white pockets of powder in the dross is evidence of thermiting. Hard, shinny dross suggests too much metal, showing that the flux has had little or no useful effectiveness. Properly fluxed dross should be loose and powdery.

Reducing Metal Loss

It is very important that any business monitors its metal loss. Selecting the right cleaning flux is the first step toward reducing that loss. Using a service to reclaim metal is expensive. A good flux can dramatically reduce the need for these services. Synex fluxes are simply the best choice if metal quality and metal loss are important issues.
